We are a farm animal sanctuary located on a beautiful 10 acre site in rural Kent, UK. We were established in 1994 and in the ensuing 25 years we estimate that we have rescued upward of 2000 animals.
Our mission is to offer a safe-haven to unwanted, neglected and abused animals, while educating about animals, veganism and ecological sustainability. We hope to contribute to a world in which humans and animals can live in a mutually sustained environment through practices like vegan, organic, permaculture, farming systems. We are a no kill sanctuary, we re-home a small amount of companion animals but most of the animals that live here stay with us until the day they die. FRIEND relies solely on donations from members of the public, and is a registered charity: no 1173318.Read More
The Retreat had three sites - Crockenhill, Ashford and High Halden. Now the High Halden site offers specialised care for the animals. We are a registered charity, not-for-profit organisation. Our Trustees and most of the volunteers are vegan. All funds raised go to the welfare of the animals, at the Retreat. Where possible animals are re-homed in permanent, loving homes.
The Retreat operates a genuine no-kill policy.
Our sites accommodate our main rescue centre and
wildlife hospital to deal with most animal intakes and emergencies.
We now have ample room to care for more animals, our intensive and equine re-homing centre, along with care-for-life wildlife and exotics.
The number of animals being cared for by our Retreat
is over 1,000 at any one time.Read More
